A few years back my sister became pregnant and had to quit school. She had gotten behind in high school, because of a troubled family. She finally decided she had to finish and though one year behind, finished high school Her plans were to go on to college, which she did. It was her pregnancy that put a stall on these plans.

She paid for her first semester out of her own pocket, with money she had earned from a summer job. When she became pregnant, she was pretty much on her own, without any help from the father or his family. Although she had every intention of going back to school, realizing how important it was for her to getting a decent paying job, she was struggling to just keep up with the mounting hospital and baby bills. She barely had enough money to support herself, let alone pay for an education. She was also worried about who would baby sit her son while she was attending school, even if she could figure out to get there.

My sister had excellent grades when she did attend, so it would be a shame if she could not raise the money to continue and ultimately complete her education. The lack of funds should not be the major hindrance that it once became. Her impressive transcript of grades I thought should help her continue. I told her about grants that the US government has for single parents, especially single female parents. Since many students are encouraged to get loans, ultimately leading them to drown in debt, she felt that this would never be an option. Single parents are often denied scholarships to help pay for school fees and living expenses for this reason.

Government grants, unlike loans, do not have to be paid back. Grants in amounts up to 40,000 to 50,000 dollars are readily available to students who are 18 years old and above. Most of the grants cover tuition and a small amount is left for books. Depending on the grant, sometimes books are covered.

To get a government grant for tuition, it is wise to contact the school where you wish to attend financial aid office. They will be able to guide you in the right direction. Many times, if you do not persist, they will gear you towards loans that will have to be paid back. Many people use such loans, with a combination of grant proceeds to live off of. A much better idea would be to obtain the grant and apply for a work study program that many universities offer. You will need to find out what requirements there are for the grant. A popular grant that many schools offer is the Pell grant. A Pell grant has a few stipulations. The student must be drug free and maintain a satisfactory grade point average.

You can find out more information about government grants for education by visiting your local school or visiting their website. There is also a wealth of information on Pell grants and similar grants on the internet. Obtaining a grant and continuing your education does not have to be a complicated process.

Many a times we are faced with money crisis, whether it is for education or to start your business or your medical bills or for home repair, whatever your needs are money is an important issue. The amount you claim has to meet with the Government Agencies criteria and should be a lawful amount. Sometimes, it may be a tedious job to get the money through a conventional bank as it will involve a lot of paper work and can be very time consuming. If luck does not favor you, your papers can even be denied. These agencies may not necessarily work under the same policy and requirements that the banks follow.

Unlike in loans, these programs do not require ant credit check, collateral and you do not have to give security deposits. Even if you are bankrupt and have a bad credit history as long as you are a U.S. citizen and you are a tax payer you are entitled to make this claim. It has been reported that there are about 1,400 Federal Programs, 24,000 State Programs, 30,000 Private Foundations and 20,000 Scholarship Programs available.

Even other personal needs can be paid by the government like to buy a car, childcare, fuel, your living expenses, academic tutoring, clothing, school supplies, housing assistance, legal services, summer camp, debts, music lessons, art lessons, any extracurricular activities, pay bills for senior citizens, real estate taxes, medical expenses and general welfare.

For Education:

Everybody wants their children to go to school and have good education but if your income cannot support that you need not worry as the government can pay for that if you only meet the eligibility criteria. Even if it’s for you that you want the education money, for further studies you can apply for it and get scholarships.

The world of entrepreneurship, once evolved among the masculine and the brave has now become a common place among both men and women.

We have seen the tides change and its already far too long since we last heard that this thing is for men and another thing is for women. There no longer is a separation of opportunities, all of us are already playing on the same terrain.

The sad thought though is that there are too few funding resources and help groups for women entrepreneurs. Good funding resources are very crucial especially for women who are just starting out with business. These are rare indeed that is why women tend to resort to using their credit cards, family loans and assistance from friends which in most cases are hardly ever helpful.

But you see, funding for a business is only one of the many problems among women entrepreneurs. They may also be having troubles in building websites, juggling with researches and making press releases for promotions of enterprise. And hey there are also problems in selling one or two of their products and in contacting clients. Though all that may sound difficult, they surely are worth the time of woman entrepreneur.

After all, it is her business she is building in here.

Various organizations and the government has seen all the hardships a woman entrepreneur has to undergo to be able to make it to the supposedly men ’s world. This is why they have provided programs for minority businesses to see what its like being among the greats in the businesses, or at least experience some of their glories.

If you are a woman entrepreneur and is interested in getting grants, the first thing you would want to do is to identify if you are qualified for being given a grant.

The most common qualifications are:
1: Obviously, you should be a female or depending on the program, must come from the minority sector
2: You must own the majority share in your business
3: And your business must show lucrative opportunities for growth

There are a number of government and private agencies that provide grants for women entrepreneurs at various levels.

Say for the federal level, women can undergo self-certification and apply for the Central Contracting Registry database from which many government and private contractors gather to search for small business.

Other programs may be seen on local level where advantages are presented and benefits are granted. Its just the matter of finding them and apply for one that you think you can create your real potentials from.

And because of their own commitment to provide diversified services and opportunities, large corporations are also creating grants for women entrepreneurs. Normally, these large companies were mandated by the federal government to create further services to improve their employment base and to create equal allocations for small business owners.

Well, if you cannot be reached by these options you may always turn to your previous employer and create a market for him, make him your first client. Only, you need to be very careful and see if this would actually pass to your previous boss. If you aren’t tactful enough, you might find yourself facing resignation or losing your job. This might be risky but don’t be too afraid. Most former employers do make outsourcing for their previous workers t help them start create their own businesses. After all, this will provide them with an extra chance to leverage their compliance to their set-aside goals.

Be warned though that the application process for grants may be time consuming and very demanding. Oftentimes, the providers set specific time for waiting periods with regards to the processing of the grants for women entrepreneurs. And sometimes, bureaucracies may even take the toll of having you wait for several months before your certification is released.

And being an applicant, please anticipate unusual questions to pop up. These might include those that you would not normally hear or expect.

Keep in mind also that grants for women entrepreneurs are meant to help you have that break and not to supply you with an unlimited meal vouchers. So be on guard. Many agencies and grant providers may even cut out their services to you out of convenience. Meaning, they need not provide an explanation in doing so. They just do most of the time.

Maybe you’ve heard from a co-worker, or seen a somewhat absurd, high energy commercial on late night television about the U.S. government giving away millions of dollars daily in “cash grants” and “free money” and you’re wondering how much of this is true and how much of it is hype. Well, the good news is grants are real – just not as flexible, or easy to get as some advertisers would have you believe. If Oprah Winfrey gives you a million dollars, she is giving you a grant. If the Department of Education pays for your college tuition they are also giving you a grant. Simply put, grants are sums of free money you can receive and spend and you will not have to pay the money back (except for under rare circumstances where you misuse the grant money). The money is given to you conditionally – to be used for a specific purpose deemed to be a good cause. For example removing health and safety hazards from your home, furthering your education, starting a non-profit organization to help soldiers with PTSD, pretty much any good cause you have.

Who qualifies to receive a grant? There are programs for every demographic. Every year over thirty million people in the United States receive over 450 billion dollars in grants, benefits and other forms of free money. The average citizen will often times qualify for at least a dozen financial assistance programs they never knew existed. And not just poor people. It’s true many programs are based on need, however if you’re middle income, or even well off, there are still a handful of grant programs and agencies that will help you.

As far as grants for small business, this is where a small grain of truth becomes hugely distorted on many websites and late night TV commercials. There is only a very small selection of grants available for starting or expanding a for-profit business. The business has to involve one of several types of scientific research that the government is interested in and the money is only given to the most brilliant minds in the nation. The idea that the average American wanting to start a for-profit business can fill out a grant application and get $50,000 in free money from a “secret source” to start a restaurant, or a retail store, or any for-profit business, is absurd.

It’s not all hopeless though. The government does make available a full menu of financial assistance programs that can help you start or expand a business, just know that these are loans, microloans, loan guarantees, etc. and not grants. For more info on funding for your small business your first stop should be the Small Business Administration website at http://www.sba.gov.

If you don’t know anyone who’s gotten a grant, there’s a good reason for that; most people never take the steps necessary to find out what’s available, what they qualify for, how to apply, etc. The government spends very little money advertising these programs. And if you think hard enough, you probably do know at least one person who received a Pell Grant to help cover their college education tab. The Pell Grant, based on financial need, provides up to $4,600 per year now. These are the only grant programs most people typically see ads for – college grants and financial aid. No matter what kind of public transportation you’re on you can see the posters. There are thousands of other financial assistance programs being administered by Federal, State and local government agencies. Not to mention non-government sources, such as foundations, non-profits and corporations that give back to their communities.

So where do you get in line for some free money? The process of applying is probably very different from how you imagine it to be. Most people think it’s going to be like going to the DMV, filling out some forms, maybe presenting some paperwork to show your income and bills, etc. and then your grants will be automatically issued like a driver’s license. People would like the process to be like shopping at K-Mart, or Wall-Mart… The customer walks in, sees what they like, grabs it and heads to the check-out line. Grant seekers dream of a government grant office in some mysterious building where they will invite you in, get you a cup of coffee, ask you to sit down and share your problems and while you’re talking, they’ll get on the computer and just lickety-split pull up your grants, have you sign a few forms and then maybe even print the check right there. But the government does not have an office like that.

Here’s what they do have: If you’re not applying for a block grant, or project grant, and you’re just wondering if there are any handouts you could be taking advantage of, then a good starting point is to simply fill out your Gov. Benefits Survey. This is a survey full of multiple choice questions and when completed it will provide you with a custom list of Federal and State benefits that you’ll qualify for. This is not a complete list of what’s available, but it’s a good starting point.

Here are the two major online portals for grants and financial assistance maintained by the government:

http://www.cfda.gov – The Catalog Of Federal Domestic Assistance.

http://www.grants.gov – This is where you submit applications and proposals for Federal project grants nowadays. Some smaller government agencies don’t use this system yet – but most do.

The bottom line is that grant programs are real and the money is provided for specific, good causes. Advertisers claiming you can get free money to start a for-profit business, or to purchase luxurious toys are taking a small grain of truth and twisting it into a lie that never stops perpetuating. If you’re hoping to get thousands of dollars in free tax payer money to pay off your credit cards you might as well put a tooth under your pillow and wait for the tooth fairy.

Applying for a grant used to be a difficult and tedious process. The applications were long and often difficult to obtain. Even worse, loans used to be difficult to locate. Unless you were extremely familiar with government loan programs, in all likelihood, finding a grand and applying for a grant meeting your specific needs may have been nearly impossible to find.

Fortunately, that has changed in recent years. Grants.gov, a web site listing all available government grants, was created as part of the President’s Management Agenda (PMA) and related e-Government Strategy. Grants.gov is one of 24 PMA initiatives devoted to improving services offered by the government over the Internet. According to Grants.gov, the site was created as a partnership with the 26 Federal agencies that offer grant programs. It is organized by the United States Department of Health and Human Services, which is also the largest grant-making agency.

By visiting Grants.gov, it’s easy to see how simple it is to apply for a grant. Gone are the days of preparing extensive paperwork and printed documentation, as well as mailing the paperwork to the agency awarding the grant. Instead, applying for a grant is now done electronically through the site, offering individuals and businesses the opportunity to flawlessly submit a grant application online.

There are five steps involved at Grants.gov in applying for a grant.

1. Find an appropriate grant opportunity in which you’d like to apply.
Visit Grants.gov/search/searchHome.do for specific information on grants available to you. Be sure you meet all criteria, or your time spent will be wasted because your application will be voided in that instance. Jot down the grant’s CFDA Number or Funding Opportunity Number, which will be needed for Step 2, below.

2. Download the application package.
Once you’ve determined which grant or grants you’ll apply for, you’re ready to download your grant application package. Visit http://apply.grants.gov/forms_apps_idx.html for information. Your first step is to download PureEdge Viewer, which is a free software package required for filling out the application. The software is available to both Macintosh and PC users. Instructions are included as to how to install and use the software. After installing PureEdge Viewer, you’re ready to download your specific application package. Have the grant’s CFDA Number or Funding Opportunity Number for this step, which should have been obtained in Step 1, above.

3. Register with Central Contractor Registry (CCR).
Grant applicants need to be registered with CCR prior to submitting a grant application through Grants.gov. By registering with the CCR, the organization is required to designate an e-Business Point of Contact (EPOC) According to Grants.gov, the EPOC is the sole authority of the organization capable of designating or revoking an individual’s ability to submit a grant application on behalf of their organization through Grants.gov. The CCR also provides organizational information that Grants.gov uses to verify an applicant’s identity and to pre-fill repetitive information on grant application, which will ultimately save you time in applying for a grant.

4. Register with Credential Provider.
Grants.gov employs the use of e-Authentication to ensure the security of your information that is submitted electronically in an application. e-Authentication is done through the use of Credential Providers. It is the process of determining, with certainty, that the person applying for the grant is who they are claiming to be in the application. The Credential Provider for Grants.gov is an organization called Operational Research Consultants (ORC). When you, as a grant applicant, are applying for a grant, you’ll receive a username and password, which is then used to register with Grants.gov as an authorized organization representative, or in other words, as an individual designated as authorized to submit grant applications for your business or organization through Grants.gov. Once you’ve registered as an authorized organization representative, your EPOC is asked to validate the registration. Once your EPOC validates the request, the individual requesting authorized organization representative’s status for your organization will receive a notification via email confirming that you’re not able to submit grant applications electronically through Grants.gov, which is the fastest and easiest way to expedite your grant application.

5. Register with Grants.gov.
As mentioned, when applying for a grant, it is necessary to register with Grants.gov as an authorized organization representative in order to submit a grant application electronically. According to Grants.gov and their instructions file, the E-Business Point of Contact (EPOC) listed on an organization’s Central Contact Registry (CCR) registration will receive email notification stating that the grant applicant has registered to submit grants. The EPOC will then need to log onto the EBiz section of Grants.gov and assign the “Authorized Applicant” role to the grant applicant. Once the EPOC does this, the applicant will receive email notification stating that they have been designated as an AOR and will be able to submit applications through Grants.gov.

While there are many steps involved in applying for a grant, doing so online will move the process along much smoother and quicker than through traditional paperwork applications. The site offers user-friendly instructions and support tools, including a tutorial, a help section, a user guide, a quick reference section, and a frequent questions and answers section. Through this information, most questions and problems are addressed, and where something unusual occurs, personalized support is also available through the Grants.gov contact center.

The first thing you need to know is where to look. Just doing a Google search for it and it will often lead you to a fruitless search, unfortunately. However, there are some websites that you can use that will bring up much better results:

Foundation Center:

The Foundation Center website lists thousands of available grants, including government grants for women, grants for individuals, grants for small businesses, and many more. The nice thing about their website is it also includes private foundation grants and corporate giving programs in addition to government grants for women. Often it is easier to get private grants for women than federal grants, because there is much more competition for federal/government grants than private foundation grants. If you go to foundationcenter.org you can search their database for free, but to get more detailed information it does cost a bit of money. My course (see the link at the bottom of this article) shows you some ways to access even the detailed information without having to pay high subscription fees. Check out the link at the bottom of this article for this information.

Grants.gov:

Grants.gov is the central place to search for government grants for women. They do not list any private foundation grants, but government grants only. The website is quite self explanatory, but can be a bit confusing even though they’re constantly trying to improve it. If you are going to try to get a government grant through grants.gov, I would recommend you get some guidance. My website (listed at the bottom of this article) has a lot of resources to guide you in a situation like this.

Government Grants For Women Entrepreneurs:

If you are a woman who owns 51% or more of your business, your business would be classified as a “woman-owned business” and may be eligible for additional grant resources. Before you seek these resources, however, you will need to do the following: make sure your credit report is clean, put together a well thought out business plan, and get a third party to certify that you ar ea woman-owned business. The small business administration can do this for you (certification).

Single Mothers Need to Develop the Proper Attitude to Get Free Grants

The majority of the population allows financial concerns to dominate their lives. Generally, you have a choice. You can worry and make it the center of your life or you can do something about it. Living paycheck-to-paycheck is not fun nor does it support the things you want in life. Many people actually spend the bulk of their paycheck before payday. Overspending, non-existent savings, scraping and scrimping on every imaginable expense are common issues people deal with daily. Single mothers supporting families have a rising tide of support.

You probably seen advertisements like this all the time…”the government could not give away billions of dollars in grants and scholarships”. It is not because they don’t want to. The reason is that few single mothers apply for them. This reminds me of a popular saying, “people will put a band aid on the pain rather than take action for gain.” The pain is living below ones means when it is neither necessary nor desirable.

Free grants for single mothers with families are available. A single female parent, for example can get a school grant easier than the average person seeking academic financial aid.

But you guessed it. It’s not going to happen without diligence, perseverance and making grant seeking your personal responsibility. I could list dozens of places that you could apply for grants and financial aid. But I am not going to list them here. You may ask why. Well, it is because unless you make the commitment to search out such programs you won’t value the information. The effort you put into searching yourself is proportionate to your desire for success.

I am going to challenge you to motivate yourself. Until you develop your own motivation through applying what you learn, nothing I hand you will have value and nothing happens. I know you have to work. So does everyone else. I know you have family responsibilities. So does everyone else. I know you have only twenty-four hours a day. So does everyone else. My advice is to read biographies of great women who overcame seemingly unreal obstacles. That’s your reality check of why I can’t accept your excuse.

Take the initiative and make applying for a single mom grant a project. The effort you put into searching out, applying for and following through on the grant process will return many times fold. A free grant for single mother families will create a better life for you. It can give you a slight edge that will make or break your future.

Free grants for single mother families can be found through internet searches, contacting local city halls, contacting the admissions office at your local college or asking the librarian in your local town where you should start. The information you need to apply for such grants is readily available. Become a detective and keep asking questions. Eventually you’ll find one, two and more grants you are qualified to receive. Never accept no as the answer. Just when most single mothers are so close, they back off. Don’t be a quitter. Ask one more question, research one more resource, click over to one more webpage or make one more trip across town.

Think of it this way…free grants available for single mother families are a positive step for the future for everyone. If one child’s home life can be improved, this does volumes for our community because one person DOES make a difference. That especially means you “single mother”.

Home improvement grants are normally given out by the state or non profit private organizations to help you fund repairs to your home. Grants can be obtained for all kinds of buildings including detached, semi-detached and low rise multi-unit residential. A payment is almost always just a part grant. This means that you cannot cover the whole budget of the repair or improvement works on your house and costs will have to be partially met by yourself.

Governmental organisations and other governmental institutions give out grants that are attached to the area in which they work. This means you will need to do some research within different fields in order to find grants that you will be able to apply for, depending on the nature of your repair. If, for example, the desired repair is to your waste management system, you can obtain a grant from the environment office.

Each organization sets their own rules about who gets home improvement grants. However it is important to all of them that these rules do not discriminate against you on the basis of your sex, race, sexuality, religion or disability. Also, these rules normally require that you are in an underprivileged situation, mostly, that you are not able to get normal credit.

How to find a Grant for Home Improvement

In general there are two different areas for which you can obtain a grant.

First is a grant for renovations. You can apply for this if your housing situation is inhospitable and all inhabitants are unable to pay for the repair. In these cases the local or community government will set out rules that determine which of families are eligible for grants. You will be able to get money for urgent repairs like a leak in the roof, or adding pipes for potable water, adding a bathroom is there is none etc.

The other major area for which grants are given is for handicapped and elderly people.

People with disabilities can ask for a grant if they need to change their home because they cannot fully use it due to their disability. This means that if you are in a wheelchair you can ask for money to build a ramp or an elevator, for example. The rules for these grants are even stricter than those mentioned previously, so you need to be ready to provide all sorts of proof.

People aged over 62 (it can be different from state to state) can also ask for grants for home improvement and use them to repair their houses.

If you would like to ask for a grant a good place to start looking is www homebuyerfunds com. On this website you can search for a home improvement grant in all US states and cities.

If you do not succeed with a grant you might consider a subsidised loan. You should be able to find interest rates from as low as 1% to a maximum of 5% and they also have a long repayment time.

Phil Nichol writes for a number of websites on remodeling, decorating and all kinds of home related topics. Visit his site for more informatin about home improvement grants and tips and advice from how to be your own contractor to the best resources for used solar panels.
